Monday and Thursday are studio days. On these days in particular, the third floor undergraduate studio is filled with a frenetic energy of design, research, and exploration. Students can usually be found talking excitedly with design professors and classmates in a habitat saturated with trace sketches, study models, and empty coffee cups. Every week we’ll share a completed project, churned out from this energetic studio environment.

Niki Farfel’s “Worm Coat”
3B Option Studio: Eeew-oooh | Michael Fohring
Worm Coat is a grotesque spin on a fur coat. The coat acts as a commentary on the fashion industry where people will do anything to achieve a higher status through beauty. The inspiration for the coat is from the animated film One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Cruella De Vil, the main antagonist, is a wealthy fashion-obsessed heiress who wishes to use the skins of 99 dalmatian puppies for a fur coat. The idea is to transform the person who wears the coat into a beast, the same way Cruella De Vil does.
