For those of you who do not already know this…
F_RMlab [Digital Research and Media] is a grad student initiative to promote digital technology and computational discourse in architecture at our school. F_RMlab’s current initiatives and extended goals exist in the areas of software and scripting; physical computing and interactive systems; digital fabrication; environmental simulation; and the ACADIA Adaptive Architectures conference of 2013.
We would like to open the doors for communication between our initiatives, the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as well as the research interests of the faculty and staff. Beyond technical training F_RMlab would like to provide a platform for contemporary media discourse, engaging with both the application and broader implications of computing and advanced technology in design. The realm of digital media is vast (and arguably omnipresent), and we believe that the opportunities for design innovation and research are certainly not limited to our current initiatives.
In the past term, we installed an interactive canopy in the lobby of the Gladstone Hotel as part of the GROW-OP exhibition.

Friends of Roxton Road Parks Project:
We will be working with FoRRP to envision park revitalization schemes that focus on the integration of water source into urban parks. The goal is to enable park visitors to explore the urban water cycle through play and urban farming. http://roxtonroadparks.com/

There will be a GIS related mapping information tutorial/workshop in the near future, date tbd.
Also, we are planning on hosting a coding party, a drones workshop, and a screening of the Social Network in collaboration with the film club during a work & watch session, featuring Arduino and Processing stations.
Stay tuned for updates on any these or additional exciting events!
