June 10, 2013 @ 4:00pm, Ward Room
In attendance: Connor O’Grady, Mark Tam, Caitlin Perry, Danielle Gignac, Miriam Ho
MEETING AGENDA/MINUTES
1. PECHA KUCHA PROGRESS (CP & DG)
With the rescheduling of MX reviews to late July, Pecha Kucha will now take place in August (exact date TBD). In the meantime, Caitlin will contact the Pecha Kucha organization to investigate the process involved in becoming an official Pecha Kucha city.
2. SUMMER SOLSTICE EVENT (DG & MH)
Danielle and Miriam have recieved $100 in funding for this event from GSA. This will be used to pay for posters and signage as well as refreshments. The event will likely start around 6 pm, June 21. There is also a possibility of RARE opening up the North House this evening, so that people can see the inside.
3. OPEN FORUM SPRING 2013 (MT)
We are still waiting to hear from WASA regarding which date would be best for the undergraduates. Mark is hoping for sometime in the last week of June.
4. BRIDGE UPDATES (CO & MT)
Regarding the lease for the gallery space, it is most likely that this will be signed by Tom Watson, through his consulting company, rather than through the Cambridge Consortium. As this moves forward, BRIDGE aims to have more involvement in the Cambridge community.
Also discussed was the BRIDGE prescence on the official Waterloo Architecture page. It was pointed out that to anyone not involved in the school the name ‘BRIDGE’ does not indicate what this is. As such, it may be beneficial to sub-label it ‘Student Iniative’ or something similar.
5. DIRECTOR’S UPDATES (CO)
Dr. Ila Berman has has accepted the position of O’Donovan Director. She and Mona El Khafif will be joining the faculty of the school effective September 2013, with Dr. Berman taking the position of O’Donovan Director effective January 2014.
6. PEER REVIEWS/BEER REVIEWS (CO & MT)
Peer Reviews/Beer Reviews will take place near the end of August.
7. CONSTITUTION REFORM PROCESS (CO & MT)
Connor and Mark have met with Rose Vogt from the GSA regarding the new draft of the Constitution of SWAG. In order to streamline the document, much of the content has been moved to a separate document of standing rules. In order to bring the new Constitution into effect, there will need to be two student votes: one to approve the new Constitution, and another to approve the refundable student initiative fee. The current timeline is to have the updated document ready to be voted on by September.
8. TEACHING ASSISTANT AWARDS (CO & MT)
Annual teaching assistant awards are going to be created specifically for Architecture TAs. There will be a nomination/petition process for students and faculty to recommend their TAs for the award. The second step of the award process is still being determined, with the current options being either a selection committee or a student voting process. It is hoped that the first of these awards would be awarded this coming September.
9. CLUBS REPRESENTATION ON BRIDGE (CO & MT)
There is going to be an added Clubs category on the BRIDGE website. Anyone on SWAG who does not have a BRIDGE account, or anyone who wants to be able to post on the BRIDGE site, please contact the BRIDGE general email (bridge@waterlooarchitecture.com) to request a BRIDGE posting account.
10. GARDEN CLUB UPDATES (DG & MH)
The Garden Club is going to look into getting additional funding, either through the club structure or through GSEF.
11. FILM CLUB & UNDER-THE-BRIDGE SCREENING (MT)
Date is TBD. Mark has already run borrowing equipment by ACM. Connor put in a vote for showing Moonrise Kingdom.
12. NEW EMAIL ACCOUNTS (CO & MT)
Email accounts have been set up for all SWAG executive members as well as a general SWAG council email. These are intended to help continuity across terms by archiving SWAG related correspondence. The emails are as follows:
President – pres.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
Vice President – vp.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
Treasurer – treas.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
Secretary – secr.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
Social Convener – soc.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
Council – council.swag@waterlooarchitecture.com
13. SHAREPOINT (MT)
Similar to LEARN/ACE, this is a platform for sharing and archiving documents as well as creating calendars etc. It can be used for things such as student mugshots for TA reference, etc. as viewing permissions can be adjusted so that information can be protected if need be. Currently, there is not much on the system, as it is still in the early stages.
14. ERIC HALDENBY’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY (CO)
This event has been moved to November, as the Faculty of Engineering wanted a more formal event recognizing Rick than the planned BBQ. There will be more information forthcoming as the date comes closer.
15. NOSTALGIA TOUR (MT on behalf of BD & PK)
There is going to be a meeting June 11 at 5 pm. The theme is hip-hop and it has been dubbed ‘Starting at the Bomber’. The committee has already started developing logos and t-shirt ideas.
16. UNCOVERED LECTURES (MH)
Dave Schellingerhoudt’s Uncovered lecture will take place on June 24. The F_RM lab Uncovered lecture will be in early July.
