2 Student Societies Updates: BRIDGE, F_RMlab, WA Film Club, Garden Club, Photo Club, WAC
WAC:  bike rides are awesome
Bridge: have access to 60 main all term, Philip’s studio is using a part of the space, programmed events have priority over the space, there is also another space that bridge is just getting access to which has potential for exhibition or installation work. Permanent space to be ready in 2-3 weeks.
F_RMlab : Velocity,  an entrepreneurial incubator on main campus which will come down to talk to the students here about helping them start out their ideas and lend support.

4 Library initiatives update

  • Library is looking for a full time Architecture Librarian, will be conducting writing workshops with the M1 studios (may be open to the rest of the grad students), we spoke about digital versus hard copy books and how G.I.S tools will develop at the school

  • SWAG Should buy dish soap and sponges for upstairs sink in the loft

6 Student Initiative Fund Allocation

  • Two applications were received : On Empathy Symposium & a Night-shit Installation
  • $340 allocated Kim Adamek and Karine Quigley’s  Night Shift Installation
  • $500 to on empathy with  more detailed outline of specifically where SIF funding will be spent  (should be directly benefiting students)

  • Health services and writing centre are coming to Cambridge since they missed the student services fair last week
  • Christina Chan to be new GSA representative
  • GSA Funding should come through in about 4 weeks

8 Student Success office and mentoring initiative updates

  • Poster being  prepared
  • Disseminate information through studios
  • Meeting will be held soon with all interested mentors
  • End of term handbook of advice – tips from an elder

  • Contact Kassie to see if she’s willing to organize this

10 unCOVERED Lecture Series (GSEF Funding)

  • A new team of people will meet with Adrian to talk about where this is going (Zak, Kyle and Peter)
  • Potential to combine with Repost for additional funding and to reduce overall organizational workload

11 RePost Symposium

  • will happen next term, how do we take our thesis out of school into the field.
  • Admin does a lot of the organisation, we pick the theme and the speakers
  • was approx $5000 to get speakers last term.
  • If planning begins now, speaker availability will be much better.
  • This event it jointly planned with professors – Adrian Blackwell is in charge
  • Zak, Kyle and Peter to set up meeting with Adrian Blackwell to figure out logistics

12 3-minute Architecture thesis event

  • Advertise  and support the main campus event more perhaps with a bus to main campus
  • This term can be combined with peer review series as a practise run for the competition

13 Grad Christmas Soiree

  • Need Committee to pick a date and venue to begin planning. Arrange for food and alcohol. approx 70 – 100 people.
  • Opportunity to use the same caterer as last year
  • Kuni & Peter To head this and recruit more volunteers as needed
  • Stephen and Kim to send information regarding last year’s event and provide support

14 Peer Reviews

  • Used to be quite informal, people gather at someone’s house, potluck style
  • This term could be held at Bridge (Projector and screen are already set up
  • Dan Kwak to be in charge of Peer Reviews
  • could be a Friday night event at least once a month
  • can mostly be informal presentations with 4-5 students each time
  • One of the peer review nights can be a three minute thesis prep event

15 Mx Reviews

  • There will be a MX review this term, date to be confirmed by Emily once she co-ordinates with Faculty
  • We agree that there should be an MX review each term

Amanda: Draft term budget including SWAG Fee and Student Initiatives Fund. Meet with Stephen to discuss. Eventually treasurer guidelines also need to be written up

Zak: Set up meeting with Adrian to discuss potential for RePost and Uncovered Lecture series (Kyle and Peter to help with this)
