STUDENT WORK / System Stalker Lab 5.0

November 17, 2014 Posted by Julia Nakanishi Undergraduate Work, Work
Monday and Thursday are studio days. On these days in particular, the third floor undergraduate studio is filled with a frenetic energy of design, research, and exploration. Students can usually be found talking excitedly with design professors and classmates in a habitat saturated with trace sketches, study models, and empty coffee cups. Every week we’ll share a completed project, churned out from this energetic studio environment.

Interested in having your work featured on our STUDENT WORK Monday series? Check out our BRIDGE Contact page for submission details.

3B Option Studio | System Stalker Lab 5.0 | Alexandra Martin and Morgan Wright

Fall 2014, Maya Przybylski

The movement of a natural body of water is an unpredictable, dynamic phenomenon. By placing a camera partially submerged in the Grand River, we captured this movement and began to dissect and measure the observable changes across frames of footage to quantify movement over time. The data collected through this process was refined to an averaged set of values, and then used to create rules to input into a system code. We have attempted to generate an artificial wave utilizing the real life data to dictate the computational output. Once our base code was complete, we began to look at what other forms could be generated from the original. Through experimentation we created several iterations of output based on the first wave generated.
