On January 1st, 2013, the very first BRIDGE post went live on the website. It was titled WASA Positions – Winter 2013 Term and outlined the position-holders on WASA for the semester. That informative, inaugural post was followed by a photographic micro-journal entitled Patrick Cheung: 100 Strangers and the announcement that the ACADIA Conference on Adaptive Architecture was coming to Waterloo Architecture in the fall of 2013. The introduction of Mole Magazine and the very first thesis defense announcement for Jonathan Lim came shortly after. From these very first posts, the BRIDGE website has grown with momentum – gathering and sharing the diversity of work, external initiatives and creative endeavors of the innovative and ambitious students from the Waterloo School of Architecture.
Since that point, the BRIDGE Waterloo Architecture website has accumulated 412 posts, had over 50 contributors and now receives over 18,000 page visits per month. It began as a virtual forum for promoting the discourse of architecture and design, over time it has become a collective identity for our constantly evolving school. The combination of the migratory nature of co-op, the opportunity to go on exchange and the highly anticipated study term in Rome ensures that, at any given moment, the Waterloo Architecture student body is dispersed across the globe. For many, the BRIDGE website has become the place to connect to what’s happening academically, professionally and socially within the school community.
The website wouldn’t be what it is without the countless students who have, and continue to contribute to its ever evolving content. Everyone brings forth their own perspectives and ideas, adding to the diverse voice embodied in the website. A passionate team of new and continuing authors and editors are giving the BRIDGE website life, with new contributors every month. Two years after the first post went live, the BRIDGE website wishes to celebrate the people behind the posts and online-enthusiasm.
