ArtCOP21 Waterloo Region – Call for Submissions

To express solidarity with the United Nations Climate Conference, rare Charitable Research Reserve, Divest Waterloo, CREW, and BRIDGE are thrilled to present Inspired by Change: The People’s Climate Art, a collaboration of art and film. Join us for an exciting exhibit and film screenings over the week of Nov 30 – Dec 8.

 

This December is the much awaited Conference of Parties (COP) also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. Celebrating this with the arts and cultures is ArtCOP21, a global climate festival that makes Climate Change everyones business by connecting us with it through over 290 major events such as art installations, exhibitions, performances, conferences and many more.

ArtCOP21 is also right next door, in the Waterloo Region, and BRIDGE is more than thrilled to be a part of it! We are working along with the rare Charitable Research Reserve, Community Renewable Energy Waterloo and Divest Waterloo to make ArtCOP21 an exciting series of events from November 30th to December 8th.

BRIDGE will house the opening night of the art show “Inspired by Change: The People’s Climate Art” on November 30th. The art show will be open for viewing in BRIDGE till December 6th. Artists and climate enthusiasts are called to enter their artwork to the show. The submission deadline is November 23rd.

We will be rounding up the week with a celebration at BRIDGE on December 5th, with live music!

 

The full range of ArtCOP21 events in our region:

November 30: Opening night of “Inspired by Change: The People’s Climate Art” at BRIDGE (PechaKucha, beverages & food)

December 1,2,3: Beyond Crisis (#SmartonClimate) screening at North House (rare Charitable Research Reserve, 1679 Blair Road, Cambridge)

December 5: Celebration of ArtCOP21 at BRIDGE (live music, beverages, food)

December 8: Haida Gwaii: On the Edge of the World screening at North House (Winner, Hot Docs Best Canadian Feature Documentary Award)

 

As ArtCOP21 puts it, ‘Climate is everyone’s business.’

Join us in celebrating a global event of art, design and culture and play a role in beating climate change.

BRIDGE was super excited to screen 9 excellent short films in partnership with Grand River Film Festival. The films were selected by Poorna Patange, a student from Waterloo Architecture. Poorna worked with Tamara Louks from GRFF to organize today's event, so here's a shout out to them both!

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Grand River Film Festival has partnered with BRIDGE for an exhibition of film related works. Position, an exploration of what it means to be an architect through various media will combine the components of film and design. We will be screening 9 short films from around the world that have been made by an array of architects, students and film makers. The event aims to present architecture through film, attempting to find the role of the architect.
