The first project of the 3B Option Studio, “Creative Instincts and Architectural Imagination” was a film illustrating a narrative about landscapes, rituals and urban artifacts.
Monday and Thursday are studio days. On these days in particular, the third floor undergraduate studio is filled with a frenetic energy of design, research, and exploration. Students can usually be found talking excitedly with design professors and classmates in a habitat saturated with trace sketches, study models, and empty coffee cups. Every week we’ll share a completed project, churned out from this energetic studio environment.

The first project as part of the 3B Option Studio, “Creative Instincts and Architectural Imagination,” coordinated by Andrew Levitt, had asked students to create a narrative based on a set of words relating to the topics of Landscape, Ritual and Urban Artifact. The project relied on students transmitting their creative thoughts and instincts into a meaningful short film that integrated the three words.
The first step of the project required us to research the etymology of each word while also discovering the essential and captivating qualities that motivated us to begin crafting our narratives. The second step encouraged students to move further by testing our initial thoughts. This allowed us to observe how the formation of our films would convey our narratives through the lens of architecture. The third step involved assembling a storyboard which assisted us in iterating and editing our decision-making process. The fourth and final step combined the process of crafting our presentations while also incorporating forms of sound and narration in a manner that clearly articulates our ambitions and intentions.
