Common Waters is an experimental exhibition designed by the BRIDGE team and curators from Cambridge Art Galleries. It is ongoing, with a program that began in June and runs till September 15, 2019. Common Waters addresses our relationship with water through community-generated conversations between academics, indigenous leaders, students, artists, community members, and researchers. The exhibition’s collaborative curatorial process, adaptable structure, as well as the breadth of voices is most evident in the Archive Wall, which is installed in the BRIDGE Storefront at 37 Main Street.
One of the unique aspects of the Common Waters program is the incorporation of events and other temporal works, such as performances, workshops, lectures and panel discussions. The Archive Wall displays artifacts from each event, allowing each to have a continued presence and merges the multitude of formats and voices that form the content of the exhibition. The artifacts are organized according to the overarching themes of Common Waters, Unstable Environments, Collective Actions, Communal Stories and Personal Experiences. The Archive Wall is a mechanism for maintaining open and fluid conversation, and can be adjusted to include unforeseen thoughts, pieces, and outcomes. It is a continuous work-in-progress. The archive also has an online presence as a journal, updated with every event.
The Archive Wall can be viewed during the Storefront’s open hours, which are Saturdays from 10am-2pm throughout the duration of Common Waters.
