Scapegoat Journal Launch @ Bridge Centre for Architecture and Design
Monday June 19, 2017* Drinks 8:30 PM* Talk 9:05 PM

Join Issue Editor Christie Pearson, Contributors Marie-Paule Macdonald, Kurt Kraler, and Marcin Kedzior, Double Double Land founder Daniel Vila, and Scapegoat Board Members Adrian Blackwell and Jane Hutton, for drinks and a discussion about the latest issue of Scapegoat: Architecture, Landscape, Political Economy: Issue 10 NIGHT.

This issue of Scapegoat Journal proposes an active and creative unmanagement of the night. Night drags architecture and landscape into the realm of temporality. The hidden, illicit, clandestine, lunatic, and aquatic are folded into the night. How can we “take back the night” whle tending its oceanic depths? What tools do we need to counter the exploitation of the night as real estate? We watch the management of the night, as an object of investment, growing, see it increasingly understood as a site of production and a horizon of consumption. What remains for the dreamer when night is pulled into the light of day? Contemporary debates about the urban night complicate each other, from dark sky movements to activist movements calling for safety and accessibility. Night extends a conversation begun in Eros as to the architectural potentials of the less-than-conscios. In light of anti-capitalist, anarchist, ecological, feminist, queer, and post-colonial critiques we remember the night as a source of creative fecundity.

The issue features work by Xenia Benevolski, William Davis and Ming Lin, Anna Dietzsch, Eleonora Diamanti, Pohanna Pyne Feinberg, Curt Gambetta, Sophie Hamacher, Natalie Jachyra, Lucia Jalon Oyarzun, Cristina Jorge, Geraldine Juarez and Magnus Eriksson, Marcin Kedzior, Kurt Kraler, Ersela Kripa and Stephen Meuller, Peter Lamborn Wilson, Rita Leistner, Marie Paule Macdonald, Josiane Meier, Catie Newell, Jasmine Pisapia and Malena Szlam, Christine Prieser and Sheraz Khan, Lim Rui, Philippe Rahm, Jakob Franz Schmid, Erez Golani Solomon, Christian Dimmer and Brian Morris, Sparrow and Leo Zhao. Edited by Will Straw and Christie Pearson.

THESIS: States of Dependency

THESIS: States of Dependency

Jan 12, 2016

Kyle's thesis 'States of Dependency' is concerned with exploring architectures relationship to socio-political and ethnographic conflict within Jerusalem. Specifically, the work examines the districts of west and east Musrara, sites just to the north of the Old City, and reimagines the civic function of the no-mans land that runs between them. The project works to literally bridge the Israeli western half and the Palestinian eastern half of this area, and explores the educational and civic role that a truly public space may provide in this context. Kyle's defence will take place on Friday January 15th, 2016 at 9 30 AM in ARC 2003.
