EXHIBITING ARCHITECTURE OPPORTUNITIES for INVENTION

March 4, 2014 Posted by Magdalena Miłosz Community, Event, Initiatives

EXHIBITING ARCHITECTURE OPPORTUNITIES for INVENTION is a symposium discussing creative approaches to curating exhibitions and installations.

Two related panels, [INSIDE] OUTSIDE, will be followed by an evening keynote in the Main Lecture Hall at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture.

1:30 – 3:30 pm [INSIDE] examines the disciplinary issues of designing exhibitions and generating vibrant discourse on current issues.  How do we instigate critical conversations among different disciplines?

Speakers:
Ila Berman, Director, Waterloo Architecture
Larry Richards, WORKShop
Christine Shaw, Blackwood Gallery

4:00 – 6:00 pm OUTSIDE explores how exhibitions and installations can reach out to the wider community, to engage the public in important conversations.  How do we instigate interest and participation from a general audience?

Speakers:
Lisa Hirmer, DodoLab
Maiko Tanaka, InterAccess
Annabel Vaughan, Centre for City Ecology

6:30 pm KEYNOTE lecture by Felicity Scott, Director of the Program in Critical, Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture at Columbia University.

RePost (Regarding Exhibition Publication Opportunities) is an annual event at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, exploring opportunities for disseminating architectural design and research.  This year’s symposium, Opportunities for Invention, aims to jumpstart discussion on BRIDGE, a new student-run gallery in Cambridge, Ontario, as a tangible opportunity for the University of Waterloo School of Architecture to generate a local design culture.
