Arriscraft Lecture: The Illusion of Stasis in Structures

October 19, 2015 Posted by Sneha Sumanth Community, Event, Feature, Uncategorized

The University of Waterloo School of Architecture will host the first of the series of lectures sponsored by Arriscraft on Thursday Oct 22 at 7pm at the Lawrence Cummings lecture hall.

The Illusion of Stasis in Structures: Recent Findings from Mark West and Pressure Building Laboratories

Our first lecturer is Mark West, who is currently teaching at MIT Architecture. Many of you will know of his research with fabric formwork and concrete, as well as for his approach to architectural research as an educator and founding director of C.A.S.T., the Centre for Architectural Structures and Technology at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture. He works across architecture, construction, material research, engineering and sculpture. His research – recognized widely through publications, awards and exhibitions – is fascinating from both poetic and structural perspectives.
