BRIDGE Art Battle 2015: Recap

November 5, 2015 Posted by Bianca Weeko Martin Community, Event, Feature, Storefront

On October 29th, several members of BRIDGE hosted an Art Battle at the storefront on 37 Main Street, opening it up to the community of Cambridge and the School of Architecture as an opportunity to showcase creative talent and to foster support and inspiration between local artists. The BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design was transformed into a space of creative and positive energy, a live studio and exhibition space for a multiplicity of artistic styles and ideas. The pinnacle of the night was the double-round art battle, where a total of sixteen Art Battlers put on a one-of-a-kind show of ingenuity and raw artistic skill for an audience that numbered roughly one hundred people.

Work of various media, size, and subject was hung along the walls of the storefront.

As soon as the thirty-minute countdown for each round began, the pressure was on. There was a mix of artists from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture and from the community of Cambridge.

The central row of the storefront was in constant motion.

The Art Battle was the perfect studio break. Visitors were simultaneously admiring art and socializing with friends.

Some artists opted for mediums outside of the default supply of acrylic paints.

Still, other artists attempted to push boundaries with the possibilities that a blank canvas presented.

The winner of the Art Battle was Giselle Tyrrell!

The vibe was right, the music pleasingly chill, and everybody was able to feast their eyes on a gushing stream of colour and creativity. The BRIDGE Art Battle proved to be a fun event for all, and a new tradition for the community members of Cambridge to look forward to.

You can view the rest of the event photos on the BRIDGE Facebook! Special thank you to Jason Wu for being the event photographer for the night.
