In conjunction with the March Break Open House for prospective applicants, current students were asked to capture the architectural design process.

Trace paper is one of the first tools resorted to in architectural education. The translucency of trace lends itself to an iterative process, allowing a project to be born out of the layering and refining of ideas.

Designers use many tools and mediums to navigate the environmental, material, and social challenges intertwined with their projects. Sketching, model making, photography, mapping, digital fabrication, and art become forms of exploration. The project fragments on display represent thinking and discoveries through all stages of a project. While these exercises are fundamental to the design process, much of this learning can be difficult to distinguish and read in polished, final projects.

The Unwind Fiber Arts Club, originally called the UWSA Knitting Club, was started in Fall 2014 by a group of graduate students who shared a passion for knitting and an interest in learning new textile crafts and techniques. Unwind is currently looking to expand its knowledge of textile crafts and would love to learn more about the fiber talent at UWSA so if you have a skill that you'd like to share such as leather working, bookbinding, embroidery, etc. then we will use all of our resources and experience to help make your workshop happen!
