Once again, The Stops Night Market has been a great success and like years past, Waterloo Architecture students and alumni have stepped up by designing and fabricating food carts and installations to support this great cause.
Though The Stop’s Night Market is over until next year, there are still many projects and their designers to be exposed to those of us not lucky enough to attend. I sat down with Amrit and Tae of Lokki Studio to talk about their experience and contribution to the event. Long time friends and current masters students, Tiffany Chiang, Michael Bootsma, Taehyung Kim and Amrit Phull formed Lokki Studio from a shared belief in the value...
I was fortunate enough to be photographing The Stop’s Night Market for the second year in a row. It was a night of all my favourite things, food, drinks, laughter and great companies. Of course it was not a surprise to bump into so many familiar faces during the two nights of the event as we know that a lot of people from the UWSA community were involved in building the carts and coordinating the event. The...
June 18th and 19th, The Stop Community Food Centre hosted their second annual Stop Night Market in the Honest Ed’s alleyway in Toronto, inviting over 50 Toronto chefs as well as showcasing the food cart designs of Waterloo Architecture students and alumni. A call for proposals back in February got the juices flowing, and local designers submitted one-panel proposals for this year’s food carts. 36 designs were chosen, 16 of which belonged to teams...

I recently had the pleasure of meeting up with the amazing Timea Jakab, who is a Waterloo Architecture alumna and current adjunct professor at our school. We met in Toronto at University and Adelaide, over green tea and avocado-on-toast, where we discussed her current role as a member of the design committee in this year’s Stop’s Night Market. Timea is currently self-employed, giving her the flexibility she needs to take on an integral role...

For those of you who do not already know this… F_RMlab [Digital Research and Media] is a grad student initiative to promote digital technology and computational discourse in architecture at our school. F_RMlab’s current initiatives and extended goals exist in the areas of software and scripting; physical computing and interactive systems; digital fabrication; environmental simulation; and the ACADIA Adaptive Architectures conference of 2013. We would like to open the doors for communication between our initiatives, the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as well...
Tickets for the Stop’s Night Market go on sale Wednesday, May 22nd, at noon. The annual event, now in its sophomore year, gathers more than 50 Toronto chefs over two nights for an all-you-can-eat-and-drink festival in support of The Stop Community Food Centre. As if the gourmet street fare wasn’t reason enough to go, vendors will be set up with a new crop of food carts, all designed for this year’s event. Waterloo Architecture students and...
