Exhibition: Studio 2013

April 13, 2013 Posted by Petra Bogias Event, Graduate Work, Undergraduate Work, Work

Join us Tuesday April 16 at 6:30pm in the Design at Riverside Gallery for the opening of STUDIO 2013, an annual exhibition of student work.

This exhibition brings together exemplary graduate and undergraduate projects from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. These projects demonstrate the infectious energy, craft, commitment and creativity that are the internationally recognized hallmarks of the school.

From space stations to settlements in the Middle East, from the implications of climate change to complex reconsiderations of contemporary public space, STUDIO allows us to witness the imagination and insight that will shape architecture in the 21st century.

The completed graduate projects on display are remarkable for their richly textured, self-directed work that is underpinned by both a significant commitment to research and countless layers of design investigation. These often pioneering projects posit architecturally focused solutions to questions that communities that might not otherwise engage or be willing to investigate.

Finally, the title of the exhibit Studio points to the rich cauldron of creativity that occupies much of the top floor of the school. From these design studios – a true creative commons, all the work of this exhibition flows. Studio is a unique and absolutely precious resource of the school. It is a place where beauty, determination, problem solving and deadlines collide. It is here that architecture is discovered, insights are developed and designs are redesigned and made ready to present to the world.
