Every December, a crowd moves through the snowy streets of Cambridge carrying a cassette, CD, or MP3 for the annual event, Unsilent Night. Each person carries a boombox or sound amplifying device playing one of four tracks specially composed by Phil Kline for the event. Together they play the music simultaneously while walking along a predetermined path. The combination of the tracks create a special soundscape, with light and art installations along the way bringing together music, art, and architecture.

This year, our school has the opportunity to connect to the community through Cambridge’s own Unsilent Night by creating our own installation for the BRIDGE Storefront located at 37 Main St. On the outside facade, netting will be draped over the building to support glinting silver spray-painted branches and transparent plastic icicles. Light projecting onto the facade will bounce off the hanging elements and create beautiful shadows.
The netting will continue into the indoor space, creating an undulating canopy of branches and icicles that hover over a PVC pipe Christmas tree. We will need plenty of hands to help us build the installation for the event on 11th of December.
