ROMA: Waterloo Architecture Rome Show 2013

For one night the Grand House was revived, once again filled with raucous architecture students as we revisited a remarkable four months spent in Rome. All the furniture was pushed aside to to make room for the work of the graduating class of 2013. The walls of the living room were covered in a diverse range of projects focusing on the developing post-industrial neighbourhood of Ostiense in Rome. Studio desk lamps illuminated the suspended proposals which addressed one of four programmatic conditions; riverside library, urban park, housing development, or public piazza. Two bedrooms served as auxiliary galleries: one featuring sketches from our travels throughout Italy, the other, a glimpse of the numerous workshops we collaborated in. The evening was saturated with delicious refreshments and nostalgic moments.

Thank you to all those friends, family and students who have or one day soon will visit Rome, for participating in the evening. A special thank you to Mano and Baldeep of Phidon for gifting everyone in the graduating class a beautiful pocket notebook.

Further recognition is due to Tracey Winton for initiating the process, the graduating class for contributing material, David Walsh and Chantal Cornu for allowing the use of Grand House, the 2B play for donating construction materials and to everyone whose lamp we ‘borrowed’ without permission. And finally, to my fellow Rome Show team; Miles Gertler, Amanda Ghantous, Scott Turner, Sara Radcliffe plus those great souls who contributed a few hours to help set-up, tear down and finish off those last bottles of wine.
