The arrival of September means the start of another academic term however this fall is unique, it marks the beginning of the newly restructured Masters degree. An unprecedented, nearly fifty incoming masters students will join the existing graduate student body. To welcome these new and familiar faces, BRIDGE has organized our first ever graduate student Welcome Week! We are hosting a series of events in collaboration with SWAG and the first-year Orientation Team to provide opportunities for graduate students to interact outside the academic environment. #ARCHLIFE / Friday September 5th from 6-8pm
This orientation event gathers all student initiatives, clubs and organizations together on one night to expose the opportunities and activities available to students at Waterloo Architecture. BRIDGE will be sharing with you our future objectives, on-going projects, and enabling you can get involved. The #ARCHLIFE event is hosted by the Orientation Team and is a great opportunity to learn what life is like at Waterloo Architecture.
NATURE WALK & TALK / Saturday September 6th, Meet @ 2.30pm in the Atrium
We are taking advantage of the last days of summer with the Nature Walk + Talk event. We will meet in the atrium on Saturday afternoon and then head to North House, a Waterloo Graduate student project for the Solar Decathlon, for a guided tour. Afterwards we will begin our nature walk through rare Charitable Research Reserve, a beautiful conservation area along the banks of the Grand River. Snacks will be provided at a pavilion along the way and then we will return to the school.
SWAG MEET & GREET POTLUCK / Saturday September 6th @ 7pm at 44 Lansdowne Rd S
SWAG is hosting their Meet & Greet Potluck at 44 Lansdowne Rd S. which is up the St. Andrews St hill. It will be another great opportunity to get to know current and incoming graduate students. Bring something delicious to share and beverages to drink. Afterwards we will all head to the undergraduate Slosh event.
CAMBRIDGE CRAWL / Saturday September 13th @ 5pm in the Atrium
The final Welcome Week event highlights several Cambridge gems, both new and well-loved, in a single evening. We will meet in the school atrium and from there move to Monigram for a perfectly crafted Americano, then on to visit a key downtown Galt businesses. We will visit the future BRIDGE Storefront then have dinner, in the current BRIDGE Pop-Up location at 60 Main Street. Following that will be riverside ice-cream cones from LA Franks and then refreshing beverages on the Badger’s patio.Tickets for the event are $10 and include an informative map of Galt, coffee or tea at Monigram and dinner at the BRIDGE Pop-Up. Bring cash if you want ice-cream or refreshing beverages.
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES / All Week
Throughout the week there will be opportunities to participate in Waterloo Architecture’s countless student initiatives, clubs and organizations. Join in for a game of soccer in the park on Monday, watch a movie put on by the WAC Film Club on Tuesday. On Wednesday join the Garden Club in the garden at the school and on Thursday, we will all go to Walshees. Then on Friday, F_rmLab will introduce their on-going explorations. Monday we will hold the first BRIDGE Meeting of the term at 6pm in the Loft. If you are curious about BRIDGE and interested in contributing to the Storefront or Website initiatives, join us!
