Art, Design & Architecture 2014 Documentary Series at Princess Cinema

September 24, 2014 Posted by Magdalena Miłosz Event

Art, Design & Architecture, a documentary film series presented at the Original Princess Cinema in Waterloo, brings thoughtful explorations of the creative industries to a broader public audience starting this Monday. From architects to cartoonists to chefs and musicians, the subjects are as diverse as the lenses through which they’re viewed. See the film trailers below to discover fascinating viewpoints on creativity in recent documentary cinema.

Modern Tide: Midcentury Architecture on Long Island highlights the small and spectacular post-WWII houses set against the natural backdrop of Long Island, such as this one by Philip Johnson, and the increasing difficulty of preserving them in the era of the mega-mansion.
Co-presented by Whiting Design, the firm of Waterloo Architecture alumnus Graham Whiting.

Stripped explores the rise of the web comic in the wake of the newspaper comic strip’s demise, featuring interviews with seventy well-known cartoonists on both sides of the digital divide.

From Nothing, Something brings together views on art and the creative process from a wide variety of practitioners to discover what ties them all together.

Llyn Foulkes: One Man Band follows the obsessive career of artist and musician Llyn Foulkes, revealing the intense emotion that accompanies dedicating oneself fully to one’s creative endeavours.

Drawing on Life looks into the sketchbooks of architects to explore the still vitally relevant role of drawing as a way of thinking and communicating ideas.

Tickets for films in the Art, Design & Architecture documentary film series and all other films at the Original Princess Cinema ( 6 Princess Street West, Waterloo, Ontario) are $10, $7 for members (an annual membership costs $12). The series begins on September 29 and continues Mondays 7-9pm until October 27, 2014.
