A Night of Postcards Cambridge LAUNCH!

October 22, 2014 Posted by BRIDGE Community, Initiatives

LAUNCH_NoP_square

A Night of Postcards Cambridge is a community art project supported by BRIDGE Waterloo Architecture to encourage the sharing of perspectives, thoughts, and memories of Cambridge. Our mission is to develop a collection of drawings, writings, sketches and maps made by individual contributors to create a visual identity for the city.

We are distributing blank postcards within the school, at local businesses and community centres to be handed out to the public. The postcards are yours to be creative – there are no rules. Take a little time or lots, any medium, method or subject matter – it’s all up to you. We want to encourage creativity, we want to encourage fun, and we want to gather everyones’ thoughts about our rich community. This project is open to anyone and everyone – all ages and talents.

These postcards will become pieces of art – personal perspectives brought together to make a shared vision. Once gathered, we will host an exhibition – a colourful collective memory shown through the creative and imaginative eyes of our community.

Postcard collection ends November 25, 2014 – Please return finished postcards to our submission boxes.

Submission boxes will be available at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture and our partnering locations, where the finished postcards can be dropped off for collection. The postcards will all be put on display at the BRIDGE Pop-Up storefront gallery located at 60 Main St in Cambridge, and later will all be made into a book – a summary of drawings and notes to show the local perspective.

Participation in this project makes you eligible for the 100 Notebook Project, a second initiative to promote creativity through the use of a notebook. Selected participants will be tasked with filling a notebook with writing, sketches, and ideas over the course of four months. Afterwards the 100 notebooks will be collected for exhibition then retained as a circulating library to share the power of creativity of a notebook. Stay tuned for more information and fill out a postcard if you’re interested in participating in the 100 Notebook Project!

Get involved! A Night of Postcards Cambridge is our opportunity to reach out to the community through a shared creative outlet. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved—complete a postcard, share the initiative with people in the community, and  join us at this Thursday’s BRIDGE meeting at 6pm in the Loft to find out more.

Email us, and follow us online – more information, pick-up/drop-off locations and details about the project will be posted. If you are interested in getting involved, please get in touch. We hope to see you and your postcard at our upcoming exhibition.

Exhibition date to be announced soon – visit us online or follow BRIDGE Waterloo Architecture Facebook page to stay up to date.

We live in Cambridge, but much of the time I'm not sure how well we see it. What kinds of poverty persist here? And how do we fit into that picture?

100 Notebook Project Launch

Nov 9, 2014

The 100 Notebook Project explores the power and potential of the notebook as a medium for capturing creativity. Our local community is full of inspiring and creative people who have their own unique perspectives to share. We will select 100 creative people and give them a notebook to fill with their own thoughts, arts and day-to-day musings.

THESIS: House(Craft)

THESIS: House(Craft)

Dec 10, 2015

Katherine's thesis explores the opportunities provided by this concept of ownership and mobility. Individual units could become highly tuned to the person(s) occupying them – morphing each unit into an indispensable platform from which users occupy a city. This new concept of home would allow an increasingly mobile population to resituate with ease – finally reconstituting home with our wandering lifestyle. She will defend her thesis on Wednesday December 16th, 2015 at 10 AM in ARC 1001 [Cummings Lecture Theatre].
