A Zine is a form of self-published media that is not bound by the conventions of traditional print media. The zine is an informal act; its informality allows you to act as the creator, the curator, and the publisher.
The Zine Machine is an experimental library which occupies one of the formerly empty (and mysterious) wall boxes in the hallway of the undergraduate studio. It is a reaction to the recent expropriation of our private kitchen lounge. Everyone is welcome to add their own self-published content.
The Zine Machine is a vehicle for transmission; a platform for sharing and engaging, that facilitates the exchange of ideas. It is a physical space that allows you to explore the implications of print, despite our generation’s preoccupation with the infinite space of the digital.
The Zine Machine refuses to be static. It bends to the whims of the user who may curate its content as they see fit, with modular and reconfigurable shelving units.
Wooden dowels provide support as bookends, as well as hangers for the display of zines with varying degrees of visibility. The birch plywood shell is CNC cut & assembled on site. The pieces slot together like a puzzle, and are very difficult to remove from the host box.
