Over the past two years, Interns from all across Canada have come together to establish a new voice for emerging practitioners in the profession of architecture.  This year, at the RAIC Festival in Nanaimo, they proudly announced the official launch of the RAIC Emerging Practitioners / IRAC Relève Praticiens.

The RAIC EP/IRAC RP is a national organization founded, directed and governed by emerging practitioners in the field of architecture.  The team is made up of students, intern architects and recently licensed architects from across Canada, and is looking to grow in order to strengthen the voice of and connect emerging practitioners across Canada.

“Our mission is to serve, inspire and advocate for the continued professional growth of emerging practitioners on their path to licensure.”

They will serve as a link between students in academic settings through to licensed members of the architectural profession, providing a sense of continuity in the professional development of emerging practitioners. They will advocate for emerging practitioners by providing support, networking and contribution to the practice of architecture in Canada, ultimately promoting the value and image of the profession through a nationally united forum of emerging practitioners.

With the launch of the RAIC EP/IRAC RP, there will finally be a strong, ambitious and energetic body to unite and empower emerging practitioners across Canada and ensure our voices, ideas, and concerns are heard. Interns are energetic and motivated members of the architectural community, we want to harness this energy and those fresh ideas, and use them to help us make an impact on the sustainability, promotion and success of our profession.

THESIS: Cauldron of Forces: Designing a Lightning Observatory on Lake Maracaibo

May 12, 2018

Samuel Ganton's thesis wrestles with the complexity of the Maracaibo Basin through storytelling and design. Through the speculative design of a thunderstorm observatory sited near the epicentre of the Catatumbo Lightning, it asks: what kind of architecture might participate in cycles of transience and change, rather than obscuring them? How might architecture extend sensory perception and become an instrument for connecting humans more completely to the storm that is our world?

In her thesis '[in]formal Pattern Language', Nada Nafeh questions the role of the architect in self-organized communities and informal settlements of Cairo. Her thesis analyses patterns accumulated through an open-source website, a workshop with children and an exhibition on site. She will be defending her thesis on Octorber 23rd, 2015 at 12:00 pm in ARC 2026.
