Call for Submissions: Water_On Exhibition

Sep 15, 2016 | Posted by Sneha Sumanth | Articles, Call for Submissions, Community, Event, Feature, Graduate Work, Initiatives, Storefront, Undergraduate Work, Work |

Water_ On Exhibition is a collaboration between SWIGS (Students of the Water Institute Graduate Section) and the BRIDGE Centre of Architecture + Design. It aims to showcase the wide range of student projects in water research, while introducing BRIDGE to a larger university community.

Through the different projects on display we will see how students at the University of Waterloo are addressing water as a resource across disciplines.

The use of water as a renewable resource is steadily attracting interest with academics and industries alike. As global water issues become more critical, their complexities demand equally rigorous solutions stemming from diverse sets of expertise. The Water Institute’s Collaborative Water Program at the University of Waterloo allows for such partnerships to be formed between graduate students across twenty master’s and doctoral programs. This interdisciplinary approach to education allows for problem-solving across fields of research and creates new opportunities for collaboration.

The program allows for research and design in water to be explored in the following categories: Global Water Cycle, Blue Economy, Watershed Management, Urban Water Systems, and Human Health and Well-being.

As one of the partners in the Water Institute for the last three years, the Architecture School has been an active participant in these conversations with graduate students undertaking research and design projects about water management.

The exhibition will take place on October 6, 2016 at the Bridge Storefront in Cambridge from 7PM to 10PM. It will include short talks by faculty members from different departments with a focus on the importance and relevance of research and design in water-related topics.

All UW students are welcomed to submit entries for inclusion in the show.

Submissions may be in any format; including but not limited to: research posters, drawings, paintings, photographs, and videos.

Submissions must include the participant’s name, department, year, and a photo or a digital version of the material being submitted.

Please direct submissions and any questions to [email protected]. Deadline to submit is September 25th at midnight.
