In his 3B option studio, Hagop designed the Multipurpose Impactful Relief Apparatus, a temporary emergency relief device.
Monday and Thursday are studio days. On these days in particular, the third floor undergraduate studio is filled with a frenetic energy of design, research, and exploration. Students can usually be found talking excitedly with design professors and classmates in a habitat saturated with trace sketches, study models, and empty coffee cups. Every week we’ll share a completed project, churned out from this energetic studio environment.
Hagop Terzian’s “Project M.I.R.A.”
3B Option Studio | Andrew Levitt
Project M.I.R.A. is a Multipurpose Impactful Relief Apparatus. It aims to be a temporary emergency relief apparatus allowing the user to find comfort in its membrane.
The user can deploy it as a tent when seeking shelter, or wear it as a coat for protection from the elements. The insulated coat can be deployed into a single unit shelter during emergencies. The scalene pyramidal tent can be used by a single occupier, or it can be joined with another to create a community of tents, allowing multiple users to stay together during emergencies while inhabiting a more spacious tents.
The goal would be to have IKEA produce M.I.R.A as part of its disaster relief production model. M.I.R.A. would also be sold to consumers in stores. For every dollar spent on M.I.R.A. in retail, IKEA would send one to an individual seeking disaster relief.
