Studio Soundtrack 011: Waterloo Architecture

May 16, 2014 | Posted by Magdalena Miłosz | Articles, Resource |

Studio Soundtrack features five songs selected by a student at Waterloo Architecture.

This edition of Studio Soundtrack presents a sampling of the rich musical talent among Waterloo Architecture students past and present, selected with input from recent graduate Andrea Hunniford. Hey musicians: want to be featured in an upcoming Studio Soundtrack? Have an idea for a Studio Soundtrack? We welcome submissions at [email protected].

Winchester - “Fade Out”

Winchester is Lauren Austin and fourth-year Waterloo Architecture student Montgomery de Luna, who is currently on a co-op term in Berlin. They have released several albums to date, including their latest, The Seance, a live acoustic set of some of their previous songs.

Lia - excerpt from “Twelve”

Lia is a fourth-year student currently working in Houston, Texas. Her jazz-infused debut album is set to be released this summer.

Alex Cogswell - “Drop the Bomb”

Waterloo Architecture alumnus Alex Cogswell creates music independently and is also part of Toronto-based Automanic, which includes alumni David Henderson and Anna Jarvis, as well as Chris Vineberg. They have a show TONIGHT, Friday, May 16, at midnight at Duffy’s Tavern in Toronto (1238 Bloor Street West near Landsdowne). If you like what you hear, go check them out! Live music starts at 9 pm.

The Rest - “Hey! For Horses”

The Rest was a Hamilton-based band that made a decade’s worth of music, with Waterloo Architecture alumna Anna Jarvis on cello. “This video features puppets in compromising positions. It’s NSFW!”

Ketch Harbour Wolves - “Breakdown”

The Ketch Harbour Wolves, named after the coastal village of Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia, where the band began to take shape many years ago, are Waterloo Architecture alumni Liam Brown on lead guitar, Jonathan Tyrrell on guitar/vocals/keyboards, and Brian Urbanik on drums, as well as Scott Winter on bass. They have released three albums to date and have a cult following in Toronto and beyond.
