Architecture school is full of intriguing characters – big minds, lots of wit, familiar faces that mask a stranger’s untold story. As a response to this great individuality and as a nod to the famed Humans of New York series, the Humans of Waterloo Architecture project was conceived. Every Thursday, 1B students Zoe Goodman and Bianca Weeko Martin randomly select one student to interview and photograph in hopes of capturing an interesting facet of their character. The product is an ongoing series of portraits that paints a colourful (or rather, quite black in clothing options) picture of the quirky, diverse and aesthetically pleasing world that is Waterloo Architecture.

“I love to put myself out of my comfort zone. It makes me really sad that I’ll never get the opportunity to know exactly what it felt like to pop out of a womb and enter the world.”

“I live in Toronto with my husband and come to school during the week. I used to work in an architecture office. Last term was stressful, but I found myself, I became more comfortable with my English.”

“What have you learned from architecture school?” “Architecture is like Mean Girls. And everyone is Regina George.”
