Monday and Thursday are studio days. On these days in particular, the third floor undergraduate studio is filled with a frenetic energy of design, research, and exploration. Students can usually be found talking excitedly with design professors and classmates in a habitat saturated with trace sketches, study models, and empty coffee cups. What Makes a Space a Place? Waterloo School of Architecture July 4 – 26, 2017 Led by Jonathan Friedman of PARTISANS Architects, a team of Waterloo Architecture students will create a site-specific built installation on the outdoor plaza at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramics. Coinciding with Waterloo Architecture’s 50th anniversary, visitors will be invited to embellish colourful benches with mosaic tile as part of a month-long communal art-making activation exploring the scarcity of meaningful public...
This fall, Paniz Moayeri and Haneen Dalla-Ali created an installation to shed light on the experiences of newcomers to Canada. Bright Whispers is a forest of lanterns, each inscribed with a different story of immigration, written in the native language of the story teller. Samuel Ganton invites us to take a closer look at the installation, and reflects on the significance of these stories for Canada and for this moment in history.
The F_RMlab initiated project PLANETERRAEUM which was exhibited at Nuit Blanche 2014 is soon to be re-installed in the Ontario Science Centre! The team has also compiled a detailed book outlining the conception and process of the entire project.
Archi-TEXTS features Laura Di Fiore’s installation and essay entitled Theatres of Omosis which contrasts Medieval and Contemporary art and theater. Each form of expression asks the participant to investigate social ideals through a journey of thought. Through the exploration of three-dimensional space the observer is capable of obtaining heightened consciousness and elevated thinking.
