In his thesis, Tristan looks at the social changes implied by a digital culture in architecture and the impacts of this relationship in spatial notions of the contemporary North American public realm. He investigates the changes caused by the privatization of public space and the introduction of ubiquitous mobile computing (and accompanying social networks) and puts forth sets of design proposals. Tristan will defend his thesis on Monday December 14, 2015 at 1:00pm at the BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design.

Between 1947 and 1971 Aldo van Eyck designed an estimated 700-860 playgrounds in Amsterdam, forming a massive city-wide network of activity. These places shaped an entire generation, and radically shifted the approach to urbanism, turning the top-down modernist approach of the time on its head.

FutureSchool engages the students of Clemens Mill Public school through a workshop to re-imagine what a school should be like. The results are creative, inspiring, unusual, insightful and will be on exhibit on Monday June 15th from 6-8pm at the BRIDGE Center for Architecture and Design at 37 Main St. in Cambridge.

Tristan van Leur’s thesis “Public Place networks in Privately-Owned Space” employs networking online spaces will reactivate and redefine the public realm. His design proposition,Spacebook, is a spatial social network situated within the POPS, that uses the abilities of network and data-driven technologies to affect the physical environment.
